PONY PATTERS THE ULTIMATE GUIDE

FROM FLYING CHANGE TO FLYING LEAP

TRAINERS IN THE SOUTH

I bring you to my top 4 trainers, my little secrets, that are secrets no more.  I have had various trainers since the age of 13, I have trained in Show Jumping when at college, I have trained in XC for fun and I have trained in Dressage basically because I feel I NEED/HAVE to.

Honestly, the Dressage side is relatively new to me, but in order to be any vague type of event rider I have discovered it is the key to success.  I will happily jump the hind legs off a donkey, but when it comes to a 12 or 15 meter half circle, a confused/nervous feeling comes over me.

These folks below have helped me to continue jumping the hind legs off a donkey, but to also refine that free fleeing feeling into the occasional shoulder in, whilst going over some poles of course ;)

I have a monthly jump clinic with Lucy at Gasstons Yard in Headley, Surrey and I have to say she is great, a really fun lesson with some really good learning from it, everyone in my group has a brill time and I always pick up more than one great tip.  Good fun by all of us, even if you are nervous or in-experienced, she is great for all levels. For more info see our facilities page and visit their website: http://www.gasstonstables.co.uk/

EVENTING CENTRAL

Gordon is an awesome event rider who obliges me with his time at least once every other week.  I have found him to be a very important factor in my flat work and the improvement I have seen in the last few months, going from placing's at 6th and to a 3rd more recently.  He is consistent and genuinely interested in what I am doing.  He pays attention to my  horse and its way of going and to me as a rider.  I personally love a good session without stirrups, NOT - but in all seriousness, these are the things that have helped get me to where I am today, and will hopefully keep me improving every time I ride.  Whether it is Dressage or Jump that you need, Gordon is your man.

DRESSAGE DIVA

Well I had to have a Dressage Diva in here, couldn't be without one :)
Madeleine is an amazing dressage teacher whose lessons I treat myself to when I can.  She can spot the smallest error a mile away and corrects it with a tweak and a nod, I'm not quite sure how, but whatever she does it always works.  If only I could take notes during my lessons' with her, I am sure if I just kept in my brain, the instructions I was given and then repeat, repeat, repeat, I may reach a half pass by 2017.

 1, 2, 3 JUMP

Eloise manages to give an amazing jump lesson whilst always keeping in mind your horses way of going.  She is all about your horse jumping correctly and I love this.  I have had some jump teachers in the past that just want you over a large fence, who cares how.  Eloise will have none of this.  Having done a considerable amount of hunting in my life, my idea of jumping is gallop and close my eyes - this does not do well in a SJ class I can tell you.  Eloise has taught me how to get round a tight course, how to land correctly, get through a skinny, steady my horse and canter over poles at a sedate and collected rate - all of which may sound easy but put that all together and I can tell you its not.  Simply, Eloise is the Queen of jump.
