PONY PATTERS THE ULTIMATE GUIDE

THE WINDY DOG

This is really just a quick warning to let you know that taking a 4 year old Arab named Tonto across the Epsom Downs on a windy day is a bad idea and shouldn't be carried out unless you are wearing full body armor and carrying a small dart (sedative) gun.

The reason I say this is as I was making my happy way across the downs yesterday, in gale force wind that was apparently hiding a monster under the noise (or so said Tonto) from no-where comes a galloping black spaniel coming on full pelt.  Now, I have been waiting for this day to come for some time and for the main part I have been lucky enough to only catch an unruly dog on my sedately behaved mare.  But no, not today, my luck had run out.

Anywho, as the charging spaniel gets closer with a flustered looking, buggy pushing lady galloping behind him I barely have time to gather up my reins before I am being carted off and away across the downs at 50 mph on a 4 year Tonto in full flight mode.  Now, my mums comments on this were 'well girl why didn't you just let the pony go, clearly it needs a good gallop' to which my response was 'well I don't know how the other people calmly prancing across the downs might feel about my bolting pony being let gooooooo'.

So, having tried to pull up for some considerable time, we eventually get to a halt before turning around and holding back on shouting much abuse at the dog lady who only looks meekly at me and wanders off without so much as a 'are you ok deary, you look a bit flustered!'.

My moral of this story for the day is SIMPLY "If you cannot control your ill trained dog, keep it on the lead".  Over and out!
